Hey y’all,
Just upgraded my Navionics app, and now I have current markers on the map that tell me how many knots the current will be moving at any given time…just like a rolling tide table. I know that the best fishing is somewhere between still water and fast water. Anyone know how much current produces the best bite (how many knots)? Today, my current tables show anywhere between 0.8 knots and 1.6 knots. Where’s the sweet spot?
Current speeds vary wildly depending on location. Trout prefer faster moving water around current rips or creek mouths while typically reds will tuck back out of the strongest current on a bank. It’s all relative to where you are fishing. Around here at Edisto, strong currents produce muddy water which makes fishing tougher for both species.
My friend runs his charters around 1.5 hour on each side of the tide, the bite is better for him then.
