Question on shad in bait tank

Planning a trip to murray. Usually, we use herring for live bait but this time I was wanting to try some shad. My Gray line tank is about 25 gallons. I normally get about 5 dozen herring & they will live without any problems.

Wondering how many shad I can keep alive without any problems this time of year? I will pick the shad up in Chester & head to murray which is about a 2 hr drive.

Thanks

I have the same tank … Had 7dz Shad and 2dz Herring and all did just fine … The initial quality of the bait is key to keeping the bait … I also prefill my tank (I have well water) and self treat my tank water with a cup of salt and 2 tablespoons of Bait Saver … That way when I get to the bait shop the water is already well aerated and ready for the bait to go straight in the tank … The better you keep the bait the more appealing to the Striper …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

You are right shipwreck. I was thinking about the whole drive instead of the time from chester. Hoping to make the trip this Friday.
