questions

ok i got two questions. 1st i notice while fishing i would say 90% of people i see stiper fishing don’t use freespool w/bait clicker, they just wait for the rod to double over, i personaly love to hear that clicker scream and don’t set a pole in the water without one. i was just wondering if i could here from some of you who don’t use them what is the reasoning why you don’t?

2nd question is i had a buddy over the other day i hadn’t seen in awhile. he happened to come see the new house while i was cleaning the fish from the other day and stated (as he always does) that he hates the taste of striper and wouldn’t eat it if he was starving. i have heard this from other people. my question is are they eating from Pic #1? and haven’t tried pic #2 or have you guys met people like this that think its the worst fish ever…ps it seems the people who hate striper love catfish, i personally won’t eat catfish.

SEA-N-STRIPES in the moanin. will report back later,

Love to use the bait clickers myself. Only problem is that when using the circle hooks, they seem to have “nobody home” when seeting the hook. I use the Penn 330GTI’s for my downrods-a little overkill I know and love to hear the zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz go off.
Now as far as the fish goes, I’m sure they guys mussta not cut out the grease streaks-does make them taste like chiite!

i leave the reel in gear w/ clicker on. i have seen some ugly overruns from someone picking up a screaming freespool and setting the hook before engaging the reel. when i hear the clicker sound off it usually ain’t no baby. i do miss some small fish bites that kill the bait, so i check my baits pretty often.

i’m guessing your buddy had some striper with the red left in. the red meat next to the skin is where most of the oil and fat is. it gives the fish a strong taste. imho, properly cleaned striper is some of the best tablefare out of freshwater. lake murphy catfish are pretty good, too.

Second question first, I bet your friend ate the red meat and I could see that making him think that way. Personally I love stripers but I do not eat a lot of them since I catch most of mine on Hartwell and do not think the PCB’s are that big of a deal but it does make you stop and think

I do love to hear a clicker and have mine on when freelining but for freelines I use Abu 6500’s and those clickers are not that loud.

When I troll with downriggers and leadcore line I use some of my saltwater reels(Avet, Penn 320’s, TLD 15’s) and like to hear those clickers sing. Kind of like hearing the engine at a stock car race to me, music to my ears.
