I’ve been having some motor trouble recently and put some new parts on. The boat needed to be test run and this afternoon turned out to be the day. Of course you can’t do that without a rod or two along for the ride.
Good and bad news…
Launched at wappoo and got to just the other side of the connector bridge and my battery switch fell apart. Apparently this has been a problem with blue sea switches and a bad batch of plastic. A new one is already on its ways free of charge, so props to them for handling it well and backing their products. Moved some wires around and back in business on the motor end of things. No other electronics though.
Bad news number 2 is I didn’t fix the motor problems I was having. Still have some missing at high rpms.
The good news…I stopped by super secret hole #777 in the middle of the harbor and tossed the infamous trout eye and trout trick combo. Boated 2 trout. One at about 18" came home for supper tomorrow night and one just barely made 14.000 inches with a pinched tail, so it swam away to live a little longer. I missed a couple other bites as well.
In other news, we need more volunteer boats for Military Appreciation Day on November 14th!
In short, its a one day event where you volunteer to take active duty service members fishing. You volunteer and tell us how many you’re willing to take, and we assign them to your boat. At the end of the day we have a big cookout, socialize, and tell fish stories. We provide all food, and as a volunteer you just cover your boat costs like any other day fishing. Some more details here:
This MAD event sounds awesome. As luck would have it, I actually dry stack my boat at Rivers Edge, so this may work out well. What are the hours of volunteer service? My only concern is that I’ve been having some electrical issues and yesterday my nav light went out, as well as my courtesy lights. I also need to change out my oil filter, and have never done that before and don’t know of any mobile mechanics, so I’ll try to figure that out within the next month. I’m told it needs to be done at least once a year.
On a side note, the jetties are firing right now. We got out for two hours yesterday afternoon. Caught a ton of blues and whiting before this screamer showed up on the last cast.
For hours…you work out with your assigned troops what time you want to leave. It’s really up to you. Most people seem leave during the 7:00 hour sometime. The cookout will be early evening, so getting back by mid afternoon is usually the best call.
Let hope to not have mechanical breakdowns! But just in case Sea Tow is volunteering to provide assistance for free for any MAD boat for the event.
