Quick Mercury Comp test question

When performing a compression test on a Mercury xr6 150 2 stroke, do I need to ground the plug wires to the block or can I let them hang as long as my kill switch is pulled? No concern for burning up the coil?

I don’t know that engine, but I always remove the plugs completely. Unplugged.

Sorry…I should have been a little more clear. I will remove all 6 plug wires and the spark plugs before starting the test. My question is… Can i let all 6 plugs wires hang while i perform the test or do i need to ground each wire back to the block? I heard that you can burn up the coil if the wires are not grounded. Im Not sure if this is for all outboards or just certain models. Just looking for the correct procedure.

pull the kill switch and you wont have any spark going to the coils, so no issue with testing ungrounded
