Quick question for all you deer/hog hunters..

What gun do you shoot mostly for deer/private land hogs? I realize that it depends on the situation too , but in a corn plot or animal trail(public land) situation at about 100-20 yards do you find you find yourself shooting?
Thanks!

flat, fast, low recoil, accurate

308 winchester is my favorite. If im in the stand I like a remington 700 with a bull barrel. Puts the bullet where it needs to go everytime and no tracking involved. I always shoot softpoints.

ruger 7mm mag. Puts the light out quick

60 Yamaha

Ruger model 1 in 7mm mag.

I use a 300 win mag but its way more than you need, but it will drop anything dead in its tracks.

Thanks yall. Next gun I buy is gonna be a deer rifle, me and my dad wanna start deer hunting.
He wants a 30-30 lever action, like an old Western gun. What are some good budget models to look at? I want like a .243 or .270. I’ve always loved bolt action guns. What are some budget models out there to take a look. at? I’m kinda scared to start deer hunting, I don’t need another addiction!

I shoot a customized Remington 700 in 7mm08 for the most part. Or my Savage 10 Predator Hunter in .243 or the 10 Precision Carbine in .308 if the mood hits. Still have some magnums and long actions but really they aren’t needed in the SC woods.

Don’t buy a budget bolt action like an Axis, Edge, or Model 770. Heck I don’t even like the Ruger American. My advice is to check the shelves of pawn shops and message boards for someone selling a quality used rifle. Somebody is bound to be getting rid of last year’s flavor in order to get what their buddy got and slayed the nanny goats with last year.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

30-30 is a great brush gun, I actually prefer the Remington .35 be aware both have a lot of drop after 100 yards. I’ve got some 240 grain for my marlin .35 and have never had anything walk away from it using Iron sights.

I currently hunt with a Ruger Model 77 in .270 but liked the 30.06 that I gave my son better. You can go from a .55gr accelerator to a 250 gr Boulder. Hard to find anything above 220grain now unless your hand loading.

If I were shooting in the 20 yard range I’d just use your 870 and some 00 buck.

Savage 110 is great low cost deer rifle. Been using a 30-06 Savage for over 20 years with no problems.

Thanks yall! That was my plan to check pawn shops and such. When I get some $$$ in my pocket after building my boat ill post on here, and start seriously checking around. Right nowim just looking for opinions…
