For a DSC hookup from the GPS to the radio! All I really need to hook up is from the GPS NMEA out to the Radio NEMA in. Am I correct?? There is nothing else going to be hooked up to the radio. Plus, input my subscriber number into the radio?
The ones I have hooked up require 3 wires. One is just a common ground, one is NEMA output +, the other NEMA output -. If you look in your manual on the radio it will say which color does what, and same with your GPS manual. The input + on the radio to the output + on the GPS, and vice/versa. It won’t hurt it to hook it up backwards, and when you get it right the radio will display an indication that the GPS signal is good.
Edited to clarify my confusing answer:smiley:

Cracker the book says hooking it up with the wrong polarity can damage it. Wouldn’t the + go to the + and the - to the -? Or do they mean hooking the main power bass ackwards will damage it? Now you got me thinking about calling ICOM and Lorance!
They are probably speaking of hooking up the main power feed backwards. I explained that badly. Dang power is out and typing on droid makes me hurry. Let me try to explain it better.
The NEMA is just computer handshaking. The plus and minus are confusing. The GPS will have an wire labeled output+, it will connect to the radio wire labeled input+. The GPS will have another wire labeled output - and it connects to the radio wire labeled input -. Outputs to inputs, inputs to outputs, and match polarity.

Gotcha! I have more wires than that but don’t need but those 2 hooked as I’m not hooking anything else up to the radio. I’m told by Lorance after calling them that all the ground wires can be twisted together and run to a common ground. makes it a lot easier that way. I wish that there was an industry standard for wire color coding!

Me too! I’ve yet to see 2 the same.
