Quick report and shark q

Got out early on Sunday with a friend and his kid for his 13th birthday.
Wanted to make sure we caught soemthing so took a lot if bait. Had trout, whiting and a bunch of sharks just of the waterway.
The kids mom caught the biggest shark of the day, can anyone tell me what type this is, I haven’t really caught many.
I got a few minutes throwing a topwater lure and had 2 nice trout before i had to get back to rebaiting duties! great day, kids had fun.

If those are white spots on the side it’s an Atlantic Sharpnose

Thanks!

If you go out in the harbor through the month of June, load up on some big menhaden and find 30’ close to a steep drop in the channel. Anchor up and you can literally catch these guys like bream in a farm pond some days. Chop menhaden up and put it in a chum container hang off your boat they will really get going. You can also attract some big boys sandbar sharks, black tips, nurse sharks etc. Be ready with the gear to catch something big. You never know. I use 6’ of 400Lbs mono with a 7/0 circle hook. Crimp your hooks and barrel swivel on your 400lbs leader with a 4oz egg sinker on the main line. If you get em in the mouth they wont bite through. I have had more luck with mono leaders. Sometimes in my experience sharks are actually picky about a big wire leader. Weed eater string works too but the mono is much better. I love sharks! Im one of the few that target fishing for them. What other fish can you catch 8’ long 200lbs that pulls like a John Deer? Good report and get hooked on some shark!!

Thanks J Dizzle. That one in the pic took of like a freight train, first run it must have taken 50 yards of line out in a couple of seconds. I think I may go out and give it a try as you suggest. I was out with Fritz once and he was telling me about following the shrimp boats back in and throwing out a big menhaden for the large sharks. What gear are you using, I only have inshore stuff and one off shore bottom rod.
Thanks again.

I have some stout spinning rods I use with 5000 series reels 80# braid. Over kill for sharpnose but there are big sharks out there so you want to be prepared. Also car hood sized stingrays can be a pain too so you want some muscle to pull those guys up. Otherwise you just get spooled. You can go to the pawn shop and buy cheap rods and get some decently price Okuma reels in the $50 range and be fine. 6’ leader of heavy mono is important to me. On the bigger sharks their tail hits the line and their skin is like sand paper and it will fray your main line quicker that the teeth will get through the 400# leader.
