The recent posts about getting spiders safely outside reminded me of something I heard once about house-spiders being an entirely different species group from the spiders we generally see outdoors and they have evolved overtime for indoor-life only. This means that when we “set a spider free” we are actually killing them.

if it was a big marine patrol boat that checked you with three men on board we saw them leave this morning heading out and they were checking through their citation books when we got back…we seem to get checked a frequently and the guys are always quick and polite.
…now…what exactly did you catch the urchins on???

both sea urchins were caught on mac daddy chinabacks!

marine patrol was 3 guys (SC DNR) Penny. big old Fountain with twin outboards. one of my buddies on board knew the captain so that always helps! plus when you abide by the law that helps too!
they wrote us a “good to go” pass. wish they coulda found the bigger sheepies for us!

Is that the 211 bluewater? How does it ride?

yes, it is the 211 bluewater. weatherman called for 2’ on 10 seconds yesterday but in my opinion it was more like 3 or 4 on 8-10 seconds. this was the maiden voyage for this boat offshore and I think she did really well. got a little wet coming in but not near as wet as we thought. we made about 25 going out and coming in.

Is it just me, or does that look like Clark Sound area? I’ve got a few spots up in there. Maybe we coul dmeet up over yonder one day and smack down some fish

PETA would take offense to that…

How far is R-8 from your dad’s dock (assuming you went out Governor’s cut and the jetties)? Or do you go out Lighthouse Inlet and head NE?

stickman

Yep, Rap we left from my dad’s place on the Clark Sound. I’ve got a few spots around there too
I’d love to smack down some fish. I haven’t caught much in the last month or so in the Sound, but when the trout bite heats up in the Spring let’s get it on!

baked the sheepies with a simple olive oil and butter baste with salt and peppa plus a little Unka Steve’s (82 Queen) seasoning. basmati rice and the wife had veggies. man, this fish is now right up there at the top as far as I am concerned. the buttery texture combined with the mild flavor was unreal. added a slice of orange, but it really didn’t seem to do much to the flavor other than the skin. while looking for recipes I saw where some people consider sheepshead as trash fish. WHAT!?

Stickman, we did leave from Daddy’s dock. the R8 was about 21 miles as a crow flies. we went out Govt Cut then past Cummings Point, through the jetties and out. figure we did about 50 miles total out and back. I have taken the Lighthouse Creek out to the ocean twice and that is scary man! breakers all over the place so I picked my line and committed, only to find water depth 4-5’ with 2-4’ rollers coming through. would not recommend that!
