Radio Check this weekend

Can we do a radio check this weekend during the MSC TX?

I believe the club uses VHF Channel 72, correct?

Have some kind of big TX coming up in December that recommends the use of a VHF radio and I want to make sure ours is dialed in correctly …

… it’s my Wife’s fault we HAVE to fish !!!

Can’t check in with SBC Check-in boat via cell phone … But can check in via VHF Radio Channel 10 …

We’ve never done a radio check on Murray so just figured that this Saturday would be good time with so many club boats on the lake …

Yes MSC channel is 72. Last time I used it I got a few folks to chat- but it’s been quite a while ago. Can’t remember if it was this year or last…
If I was down this weekend I’d radio check you, Rick. Copy. Over.

We used to announce lines in the water over the radio. It was a lot more fun before cell phones. You had to try to decipher the communication. “I am where you saw me last week” was a normal message. If you were lucky enough to have seen that boat the prior week you were in on the secret.

The youth tournament was a hoot. The kids took over the radios. Might be something to try to get going again for the youth.

How are they going to do the check ins? I read where you had to check in at Dreher Island even if you don't launch your boat from there and then they said there will be two boats out there.

Check out boat will be in front of dreher island. Boats will be released in flights. Blast off style. It’s not clear in the rules but I’m assuming you have to put in at dreher island that morning. Just like a green fish tournament.

Here is the response I received from the tournament director. Sent an email this morning about checkin questions.
" We encourage you to use a ramp other than the one at Dreher Island if you would prefer to do that. The key is that you must check in and depart for the tournament from the Dreher Island location. Please let me know if you have any other questions or if this doesn’t make sense." SBC

Hope that helps.

Is “10-4 good buddy” an acceptable response?

Negative Captain…that CB lingo is for truckers…But I sense you brought it up because you knew that…VHF radio does have a different “radio etiquette” …Here is a short article on VHF radio communication should anyone be interested…

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…

I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…

That’s all fine and dandy except no one acknowledged the radio check during the TX … Tried it twice … Thought someone responded but couldn’t get them to repeat …

Well that was pretty interesting. Just shows I didn’t know crap about VHF communications.[:0] …and I took the SC Boaters Safety course! Now that I’m informed I’ll use it the way it’s intended.

Rick, did you try a radio check on CH16 as well? Also, you can at least make sure you can receive WX02 to make sure your antenna connection is good.

Rick, That was me that responded to you but I didn’t think you could hear me to well. Don’t think my little hand held reaches out real far. I usually leave mine on 72 every time I go out. Some days there’s a little chatter. I’ll try and reach you next time i’m on the water. Would be good if we got back to using the radios some to announce lines in, etc. The day the weigh-in got changed, that would have been a good radio announcement for example.
