So, this is my first year with a boat, want to find out if I messed up.
Get to ramp, stay to the side while I take the straps of etc, back down and take the
Safety cable and winch of. Notice the guy who has been on the other lane backed
Down in the water since I got there seems to be having an issue getting his boat of the trailer. Lots of reving, hot tub like bubbles, but boat isn’t moving.
So, I’m kinda getting the hang of launching now, so I back of my trailer, continue backing up away from dock, get in position and start to move forward to dock.
I’m now about 30 or 40’ from dock and the other guy finally gets the boat or his trailer
And now is heading into dock from my right cutting me off.
So I give him the universal ''WTF" shrug and he then proceeds to gun his boat cutting in front of me with a huge wake.
So, i dock, tie my boat off so there is room for him but I guess
He needed the whole dick as he waited for me to leave.
So, in all seriousness, what’s the deal in this situation, should I have let him dock first as we was trying to unload before me, or was I alright doing what I did.
I can’t say you did anything wrong. This is yet another example of ramp cluelessness and sadly, you were a victim of this guy’s cluelessness. Personally, if you’re off the trailer first, you get to the dock first. If you would’ve idled around and waited for him, you would’ve been doing nothing but tying up a ramp and that would be inconsiderate to others and just plain the wrong thing to do. If a ramp is open, back it down, unload the boat and get gone. If you’re alone, back it down, unload the boat, tie off to the dock, clear the ramp and get back to your boat and clear out as soon as possible. Sounds like this is what you did so again, I don’t see where you were at fault or to blame for anything.
No matter how much it hurts, how dark it gets, or how far you fall…you are never out of the fight.
Looper , I see what you did there #128512;
Bang - thanks, I’m still new at this and want to make sure I’m not messing up. Talking about folks not having a clue, when I got back to the ramp another guy was launching. A lot of yelling at his wife etc, anyway he ties off at the dock, and as I come in I can see his bilge pump is working overtime, huge stream of water coming out. He starts yelling that he has a leak . As I’m leaving I pass the two ladies that were with him and suggest they mention to check his drain plug. They said they already did and he couldn’t remember if he put it in.
Good times.
Some people just have no manners.
happens all the time.
just keep doing the right thing, and hope for the best, and give the knuckle heads plenty of room.

About 40 years ago my son (then 7 years) and I were waiting at a boat ramp for these 4 guys to launch a pontoon, after many tries and 15 min. my boy goes over to them and said, do you want me to get my dad to back that in for you! And after 2 more tries the driver asked for my help. I taught my son and many more to back with mirrors! They would hook up the boat in the yard and back it to the mail box about 800’ many times till the could do it in there sleep at 9 years old!
A good friend was with us when we got back to Shem Creek at the end of the day and as usual, it was full on mayhem. He said that’s why he refused to go to Shem Creek, but I told him I loved it. Truth is, I love watching the idiots at boat ramps even if I have to wade in amongst them- it gives me more beer stories to tell.
They were just sitting on the dock taking up space…was annoyed…
He was just sitting there waiting for the tide to float him off the rocks…wasn’t mad at him.

Love Shem Creek for the scenery, restaurants, etc. Used to launch only from Shem Creek, but over the last few years, would rather just go somewhere else. Way too crowded, and very little parking. Unless I was launching at 3 or 4am…Have used Duncan’s in N Chuck the last few times, and have to say I haven’t had seen very many issues…just wish there was a porta potty or some kind of restroom there.
You and me both! Just because you pass a test, it doesn’t mean you’re not going to be an idiot on the road.
I had a guy almost side swipe me yesterday morning in Lexington. He wanted to get in my lane. I tapped my horn to warn him and he gunned up next to me and flipped me off like it was my fault! I just waved & went on my way. He followed me almost to my house.
