Curious about something. When it’s total chaos at the ramp, and you are returning from your day on the water, what is the proper etiquette for retrieving your boat when there is a line of about 50 trucks waiting to put in? Say I come in at 2pm and tie my boat up to the dock, and then go get the truck… should I join the line and wait for an hour to get my boat, while tying up the dock, or is it ok to politely jump in front of the line?
So you’re saying to take up a slot at the dock, which i’m referring to the Leads Ave ramp with limited dock space, and wait in line for an hour or however long it takes, versus quickly getting in and retrieving?
Yep, that’s what I’m saying. You should:
A. Have a partner who is capable of handling the boat, or backing the trailer, so you can touch and go at the dock then wait in the waterway until ready, or
B. Don’t come back to the landing at 4pm on Saturday when there’s an hour wait if you’re solo.
If you don’t, and cut in line, and get heat from others, then its on YOU
6.9% interest on your boat loan should allow anyone that can rapidly back their trailer down and retrieve their boat sounds like the small print most never read! Go ahead and cut the line, people do it everywhere when you drink from the golden cup and your truffles don’t stink…just hit record on your phone so we can all watch the aftermath over and over again during the next tailgate party at halftime.

I would love to be truck number 2 and jump out of my truck and into your driver seat and stick it in neutral and bail out as it rolls down into the water…not technically stealing or trespassing when you make it look like an accident. Hell I would do it sober just to say I told you so…thanks for being honest with your question and hope this site guides you down the righteous path. Good luck

Thanks for the replies. It was an honest question that I’ve been curious about as I see it happen all the time, but never wanted to be the person that did it if it wasn’t the right thing to do. Makes perfect sense when you have a partner boating with you, to have them hang out in the water while you wait in line. Not so much when you are solo. It doesn’t have to be 4pm on a Saturday for there to be a line backed all the way down the street to Leads avenue. Especially once they reopen the ramps and everyone with a boat decides to put in.
Get in the truck line, don’t cut unless you’re looking for trouble. Some old timer killed a troublemaker up here in Moncks Corner at the tailrace landing a few years back.
Boat landings can be very entertaining. Sometimes when I have nothing to do I ride the bike to the boat landing. (Holiday weekends) And just sit there and watch the insanity .I just wonder sometimes how people even managed to feed themselves. Much less take a boat out.
At Leeds, I nose up to the dock, wife hops out and gets in line with the truck. No tying up to the dock. She backs down, I motor up on the trailer, climb over the bow and hook up the winch. Off we go. this a 22 ft center console and we are both in our 60’s. We never have to wait that long. Leave early and come back early.
If you are by yourself all you can do is tie up and get in line and wait. Or come back later.
Either way you are gonna piss someone off… Cut in line or take up dock space there is no winner but I am kinda leaning towards you will get less crap for taking up dock space
