Ramps

OK ,using your logic ,we have some reckless drivers so the governor should outlaw driving for everyone. Here’s another one ,outlaw anyone going to a grocery store unless you live within 1000ft of a store because too many people were crowding together in grocery stores.I guess you’re in favor of outlawing guns because a crime was committed with a gun. You’re really naive if you think the party crowd is not gathering somewhere because access has been denied to some but not all.The shutdown of ramps has done nothing to help with the pandemic and if you think it has, there is no hope for you.

50,000? Nope! Try 24,000. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-updates/cases-in-us.html
Liquor stores are open. Marijuana dispensaries are open. Lottery tickets are being sold. But BOATS. That’s the real problem!
Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

I would love to know the detail of the conversations that led to the decision to close the ramps.

Seems that they could have made a set a guidelines and firmly enforced them with steep fines. Fines large enough would have encouraged most folks to follow the guidelines.

Governor just announced the ramps are reopening.

Kinda of a dumass idea to open them up at 12noon,should have just said effective immediately.

S.C. governor issues executive order to reopen state’s public boat ramps
Gov. McMaster said social distancing is still very important right now.

Limitations surrounding boating are still in effect, the Dept. of Natural Resources made clear on its website.

While the ramps will be open, they are only open for launching or retrieving boats. No public access to beaches will reopen under the order.

Restrooms, piers, docks and designated bank fishing areas will also remain closed.

No more than two people are allowed on any boat if those people are not in the same family, DNR said. Families who live in the same house can boat together in larger groups.

Also, DNR said boats cannot anchor, beach or raft – unless for fishing.

You got to remember these are state and city workers. It takes an 8-man crew five or six trucks to move 4or5 little barricades. And you can’t expect them to do more than one every 3 or 4 hours.

I am fragile. Not like a flower. But like a bomb.

Job Security at it’s finest :+1:

Double D.

I was thinking about a big traffic jam and a bunch of people all gathered together waiting on the clock to strike twelve.

Finally some good news. Looking forward to some salt water therapy.

The SAR desk has been quiet. Stay safe out there friends. Lets keep the SAR desk quiet!

It would be awesome if they had live camera feeds at the landings. I’d love to see how many people are packing into those ramps today.

I live near Lake Marion, and the one ramp just down the road only had a piece of yellow tape across the ramp, no barricades. Last weekend, a couple of folks had launched their boats as it appeared that someone may have taken down the tape. I don’t know if there was any enforcement because of it or not.

That ramps parking lot always has a lot of vehicles parked in there on the weekends. Seldom is there any large groups in there at one time, and with the closures, I think the majority abided by it.

My wife had to go into town this morning to pick up some groceries, and she said there was a good many vehicles in there today, but not a lot of people. Folks launch, and go about their business, and use some common sense, which is all they’ve asked people to do. There’s no facilities there, other than a fishing pier, so no reason for folks to hang around there anyway.

These closures may have been a knee jerk reaction, but from what I’ve been reading about what’s been going on in other states, it’s good to see that the Governor here is trying to do right by the people here. There’s stupidity everywhere, so let’s see how it goes this time around.
