Ramps

It’s a privilege? Roads are a privilege. Jobs are a privilege. The US Government did not invent the ocean and stock it with fish. Fishing is not a privilege. It’s a God given right that the government has infringed on for monetary gain. . . But I’ll keep paying those taxes for my “privilege” to fish.

And to put some things in perspective for you, we shut down this country on the premise that 2 million Americans will die. A week later, it was 200,000. A week later, 60,000 estimated total deaths from COVID-19. We destroyed our economy in exchange for .05% of the whole US population. 17 million new unemployment claims. 17,000,000 lives thrown into chaos for 60,000 deaths. 300,000,000 Americans losing all their “privileges”. Do you know how many people die of Cancer every year? Heart disease? Car accidents? This isn’t even a blip on the radar.

How do I relieve stress? I fish. And I’m pretty stressed out right now.

Privilege. SMH.

[quote]I was watching the news report on TV when the Governor closed the ramps and one of our local stations showed Bushy Park with plastic tape blocking the ramps and laughed.
I drove by there the next morning and it was torn down. A few boater’s had launched and no they weren’t the commercial crabber’s! I have a friend that has a private ramp and he has invited me out. I declined.

I do not feel like my rights are being impinged or restricted due to this order. Can I boat and fish and keep my distance, heck yeah, easy. The lack of common sense that most of the public has displayed is beyond belief. I still can’t find TP, alcohol or sanitizer in the stores and it’s been 5 weeks. Have enough, but that’s not the point.

For the first time, people are being asked to to make a very small sacrifice and they are offended. T.S. Boating and fishing is not a right. It’s a privilege. That’s why you have to buy a license, register your boat, have catch limits and closed seasons. Get a grip people.

I was pissed at our Govern

Quarter pounder,I hope you don’t catch the virus because you’re already eat up with the dumass.

Not trying to derail this post but, it seems to be one of the more actives one so. I CANNOT POST A NEW TOPIC. Is anyone else having this problem? This “new” format seems awfully problematic. IF ANYONE CAN HELP, I’D APPRECIATE IT.

Yep quite often I sign in and sign back out. Signing back in again sign back out. Give up for a while and try again. 50/50 shot.

I am fragile. Not like a flower. But like a bomb.

I’ll give it a shot, thanks.

You hit the nail on the head. Like I said before we will do far worse to ourselves than this virus will ever do. We need to open back up soon or it may be a long time before we recover from our own doings.

Well said!
Botched from the git-go.
Wonder who knew what and when?
We have seen a lot worse without such an over reaction.

I"m new to inshore fishing and already hooked! on trout and reds. What ramps are still open in Charleston, Edisto ??

AS I UNDERSTAND FROM ALL MY SOURCES IN AND AROUND CHARLESTON / EDISTO AREA ;; ALL PUBLIC RAMPS ARE STILL CLOSED , SOME PRIVATE PAY FOR USE IF YOU CAN FIND ONE MAY STILL ALLOW LAUNCHING…

FYI,

Executive Order No. 2020-16 directed that any and all public beach access points and public piers, docks, wharfs, boat ramps,
and boat landings that provide public access to the public waters of this State shall be closed to
public access for recreational purposes for the duration of the State of Emergency.

As of April 12th, Gov McMaster extended the state of emergency until April 27th.

So, April 27th (or the 28th?) we all get back to chasing fish…unless the State of Emergency is extended.

Are there any pay to launch ramps besides IOP around Charleston? I was told they were restricting IOP access. Or if you have a neighborhood ramp I’d gladly trade some Mead, booze, or cashola…

Please let me know.

PM if you don’t want to be public about it but I am dying… so much nice weather and my boat is crying every day she is stuck in my garage…

Thanks!!!

This is good news. Hopefully it pans out! https://wpde.com/news/coronavirus/sc-senator-boat-landings-possibly-reopening-public-access-to-boat-landings

Goldfinch seems to have common sense,he posts on cf sometimes.Maybe he should be the governor.

Look, I am just as pissed off as anyone else about not being able to get out and fish, but let’s be sure the blame goes where it belongs, OK? We have a pandemic going around that has killed at least 50,000 Americans and 100 South Carolinians so far. This is no joke! And we were told to practice “distancing,” so a bunch of people decided to treat it like a vacation and go party on the beaches, raft up their boats and have a good time. Frankly, I’m not sure if I care if they got sick, but they could just as easily transfer the virus to your elderly parents, any other “at risk” person, or someone else and keep this whole mess going longer than it needs to. DNR simply can’t be going round breaking up every gathering, and even if they did, then they’d just be the bad guy jerks. DNR didn’t create the problem, boaters did. I’m not a fan of the governor, but he did what he had to do.

Let’s hope they do reopen the ramps, and if they do, and you are out on the water, and you see people with boats lined up on a bar or island, go over and tell those jerks to get off the water!

But do it from 6 feet away.

John

Spot on ! Thank you

No you’re not as pissed off as I am. As usual the majority of us suffer because of a few idiots. This problem is easily solved. Any boats raft together or beached $5,000 fine and impound the boat. And as far as telling somebody to get off the water. If it ain’t worth killing for or dying for I just mind my own business and keep my mouth shut.

I am fragile. Not like a flower. But like a bomb.

A large fine will stop it!!!

Kinda like the impound idea…

DRMajor

Supposedly Stephen Goldfinch–has talked with Gov McMasters about opening the boat ramps and think that a plan will be made with DNR within 36hrs with opening soon after that.
info was from Stephen Goldfinchs FB page. keep your fingers crossed!!

For what it’s worth, early on they were just dispersing people and being pretty nice about it. I suspect that if they do reopen the ramps, and law enforcement (DNR, Sheriff, or local cops) has to break up gatherings, you will start to see some pretty significant tickets being written.
