Pros and cons? Likes and dislikes? Motors to stay away from? I’m thinking of one for a flats boat here soon. Anyone fish one around here?

Ranger makes a very high quality boat. I don’t know that model but a good friend has an 18 Ranger flats boat and it’s very nice.
Motor? Yamaha all the way for me.

I’m pretty sure the bank would love to give me a ridiculous 10 year loan on a nice shiny new expensive boat…but I’m a little wiser in my old age. Looking at a used one I can pay cash for for much less than new.

if I could I’d give this thread a morning after pill
In addition to the PM I sent, I just saw that the Ranger Ghost 169 used to be the Backcountry Ghost 169. Ranger loves to buy small boat companies and take their molds and then use their boat building process to make them their own. Like I thought, Ranger made it stronger, and heavier, but not sure that made them better. The BC weighed 700#, under Rangers construction, it weighs 850#. You can bet it’s not thin on fiberglass.
It also has one scupper below the waterline, so it should be self bailing, and Rangers bailing designs usually mean dry feet, but haven’t been on one to confirm.
Personally, in that size and price range if you wanted something pretty soon. I would go test ride/pole this Hewes, as well as the Ghost and decide which one does what you want best. This is one clean 16’ Lappy.

See Craigslist. There are 2 Ranger Ghosts on there. The 18’ I’ve been on many times. Sweet ride. It’s got enough structural stability for the rough waters like the harbor and rivers when the tide and wind don’t cooperate. Poles great too. The 16’ is a bit small.

I did for a few years on the IFA redfish tour and it’s built like what a Ranger is known for and like almost all flats boats are known for. Solid good riding boat but if there’s a chop your gonna get wet. Take a look at my SEA PRO in the swap shop if your looking for a good little inshore boat.
