rattling antlers?

The rut seems to be delayed in the property I’m hunting. I’m not sure if it’s the warm weather but I haven’t really seen any bucks chasing does yet. Is anyone having luck rattling antlers right now?

I have never had any luck with rattling antlers, but the grunt call and the doe bleat have worked for me many times.

I haven’t really either but some of my friends swear by it. The doe bleat works really well. I nearly got ran over by 3 bucks about 10 years ago when I tried it. They were chasing a doe and I turned the can over to see if I could get their attention. 3 of the 5 chasing her turned and came running right at me. I was pretty sure I was going to be victimized by those guys since I was standing on the ground! I felt like my 12 gauge saved my life that day!

Rattled in a small buck about two weeks ago. Deer have been following does for about three weeks now at my place.

Grunts have worked best really.

Bucks have been on fire the past 3-4 weeks. They were full bore this past weekend. Put my buddy on a stud 8pt Saturday morning and saw another 8 dogging does infront of the house at 9am that same morning. Rattling, grunt call, bleat, it all has been getting attention .

Ok, good to know guys. Thank you.

From my experience with “rattling” is it works well or not at all. If you say the rut is delayed where ever you hunt, you may be in time. I’ve only had good results just before and earlier rut. Have even had does come to a rattle from time to time.

What I like to do is make my first two rattles very slow and soft. 5 min apart then do a hard rattle imagining two deer fighting. give it about 15min then rub em on a tree or ground if your there then another hard rattle. wait 30 min and repeat.

Good luck it you try it! I think it works the best in an area low on deer. What’s there just can’t handle the competition.

oh yea, remember to be ready to shoot. They can come in quick sometimes.

I tried it last Thursday for the first time. Bought some of the Code Blue Platinum and threw some out around 2:15 and started rattling with a few grunts. Had one come sneaking in at 2:45pm. Too small and got a pass. First time its ever worked for me. Uncle had 3 bucks chasing a doe this morning at 8:30am and took one of them. So its still going.
