Ravenel Sheephead

Coming in from out of town to fish this weekend for sheeps. Are you allowed to fish under the Ravenel bridge or are there boat restrictions on how close you can get?

Or, should I focus somewhere else?

Thanks in advance.

I heard its illegal but see boats there all the time, including guides.

I’ve fished there a number of times. Almost always multiple boats around. I’ve never heard anything about it being illegal, but I also tend to not research those things. I haven’t tried for sheepshead on those rocks. Am curious if you have success. Certainly should be there as people catch them all the time at the Mt. Pleasant Pier.

I feel fishing for sheeps at the Ravenel rock piles would be rather difficult between the tide ripping through there and how far out/submerged rocks are around the bases. If I were to target sheeps, I would be headed to the pilings/bases of the 526 bridge, ICW(Ben Sawyer) bridge and/or the jetties. Plenty of sheeps to found at all of those locations. Good luck!

Ive caught some fish there but also lost an anchor and a bunch of tackle.

cheers

That’s gotta be a tough place to try and fish. Like FireFighter said. Better places (safer too) As far as I ever knew, as long as you did not tie up to pilings or fixtures and did not hinder navigation you could do what you want.

I had the coast guard run up on me with the 50cal pointed at me anchored there about 5 or 6 years ago. scared the crap out of me. told me to leave immediately so I rolled out like ludicrous. I haven’t been back since but see people there all the time now. you won’t find me there though.
