With the recent massive tides and sudden overnight cold drop that quickly warmed to a sunny afternoon i had a hunch there would be a good bite in the late afternoon. Add in that it was a sunset low tide and all signs pointed to a good flats bite. I started throwing a zman scented pogy on a 1/4 oz gotcha shad jig head in about 5 to 6ft of water on the falling tide. There was decent current but my presentation wasnt what i wanted and the weight was to much to fish as slow as i needed and not hit the bottom a lot. Feeling lazy i switched to my other rod with the mirrodine instead of tieing a lighter jig on. Working it how i do for trout and i got nothing. I can see fish busting the bank and reds on the flat tailing like crazy. There was a bunch of them today in all sizes but only a few bigger 1s. I watched for an hr as the tide slowly went out and the sun quickly went down. I knew there was hot action but it was just out my reach and possibly not in my time window. I was zoned in watching the reds 100yds up creek just slowly baby twitching the mirrodine like a dieng bait on its last kicks and bam my rod is slammed and i look down and see like a 23ish inch red and he yanks hard i yank hard and he does a little sailfisb tail walk and throws the bait at the ledge. A couple of things came from this, a reup on patience for the mirrodine, a decision to stay longer and the perfect cadence for redfish with the mirrodine. I caught 5 in about 15 minutes and made a bad cast and hung my bait and would have to go get it so i left it hung and tried a gulp and got nothing. At this time the sun is real low, i got to p real bad and im layered down and wadered up so thats a task in itself and im thinking of leaving and a buddy i fish with showed up. I felt more comfortable with someone close by so that if just by some dumb chance something did happen someone would be there and i wouldnt be stuck out there all night. I waded back to the flat and the last tailer went under as i got to the spot. I could still see little
