Ray ID

Caught this with a once whole live Pinfish behind IOP about two weeks ago. I didn’t see any teeth when I took the hook out but the bite says otherwise. It was similar to reeling in a crab and it didn’t fight nearly as hard as stingrays. Thanks for the help and it was released.

Butterfly Ray…

small shark took the bite(s) out of the pinfish, suckfish came along and found a morsel. no teeth and no spines on Gymnura micrura

I’ve had those scream my reel before. I’ve also caught a stingray and one of those at the same time on a double rig.

They are the second most common ray in SC by my count. No teeth or stinger.

I’m suprised I’ve never caught any before since they are that common. I was fishing a relatively new area to me though so that is probably why.

I catch all of mine in the ICW. Strangely enough I never caught any as a kid despite fishing A LOT more but about 10 years ago I started catching several every season.
