Raymarine a78 vs Lowrance HDS7?

I currently run a Lowrance HDS5 (Airmar transducer, no GPS)with the sidescan module which has worked pretty well . Now my old garmin GPS unit is crapping out and I’m looking to upgrade to a combo unit. Looking at the raymarine a78 or a Lowrance HDS 7 (gen2). I mainly bottom fish offshore out to ~ 120’. Any thoughts or alternatives in the same price range(<$2k)? Thanks for the help.

Get another HDS 5 with the 50/200 and keep the other one as well if you have room. You’ll have a back-up and much more screen to play with in my opinion. You can link them together as well. That’s the route I went this go around, 2 HDS 5s rather than 1 HDS 10. Check out BOE Marine right now, super price!

I have the HDS10 Gen2 on my Pioneer and really like it a lot. I had a Raymarine C series on the old Mako and hated it, it was a PITA to use and very complex. I’m sure the Ray units have gotten more user friendly since then but I’m not going back. G2G has it right, buy another HDS and link them, don’t change the systems.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

I have a Raymarine c-series too and I really don’t like it
