Raymarine e7D vs Garmin 721xs

So I am getting a new East Cape Vantage VHP and one of the things that I am trying to decide between is the GPS that I want. I dont really care about the down scan, side scan, or structure scan since I do mainly all inshore fishing on banks or flats. The main thing that I am looking for is a good GPS system with navigation charts and a touch screen that is easy to enter waypoints. However, this is the first boat that I have bought brand new. In the past I always bought used boats and just made whatever I had on there work.

Does anybody have experience with these that would help me make my decision?

I have the raymarine e80 on my boat and can say I will never buy another raymarine product again. If you do a search on the DSM 300 which you system will not have you will see raymarine has a major issue with this product. Raymarine knows of this issue but refuses to do anything about it. If I had the extra money I would rip it out when I am offshore an start my own wreck with it and then buy a garmin or simrad. I know if has nothing to do with the models you are looking at, but I hate raymarine.

Chad, see the following thread on THT: http://www.thehulltruth.com/marine-electronics-forum/483462-open-invitation-raymarine.html
Raymarine will make this right for you if you contact them.

I have an E7D on my Edgewater. I’m very happy with my selection. My transducer is an Airmar B60 tilted element and never lose the bottom. I have the platinum + navionics and the detail is adequate for the Charleston area. I also have the E7D attached to a NMEA 2000 network and able to see my engine data. If you have any questions about the E7D let me know.

Anothergirl thanks for the info. I will be sending mine out this week for sure.
