Re-coating Bottom Paint

I’ve not yet done it and am looking for tips on application and best product to use. Any help will be much appreciated. Thanks in advance

we just redid a 23 Hunter hull with Pettit Trinidad 75…it had been 3 years so we pulled the boat, scrapped as much growth off the bottom as possible, allow hull to dry, chip off any rough or cracked spots, wipe thoroughly with mineral spirits or something to help the drying, allow to dry, then put 2 coats of bottom paint on, allowing time for the first coat to adequately dry before starting the second coat…allow that to dry then relaunch…

If you know the previous paint it makes compatibility easier for over coating. Pressuer wash bottom, acid wash with on & off or similar, sand with 80 grit, if unsure of previous paint, wipe with acetone/mineral spirits, then two coats of new paint. Cannot apply hard, non-ablative paint over ablative paint. Good luck, pm or call if you have any questions.

I’m quite sure I have ablative on there now, so another ablative after it’s been prepped should do. Thanks.

Just remember when you are sanding it that stuff is toxic. Better to wet sand it than to generate dust. Keep the kids and animals away, wear protective clothing and a respirator, it’s nasty stuff.
