Has anyone ever done a blast & cast trip out of Venice? I’m looking to change venues for our annual duck trip, and we thought a little inshore action every afternoon would be a nice change of pace. Any reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.
I have fished out of Venice before and did not care for it or the people. There is nothing, and I mean nothing, in Venice or the surrounding area. The entire area reminded me of a large concrete or asphalt plant that became a town. The oil rigs are the employers so for the 25 year old guys who must take time off the rig platforms because of regulations, they come in to Venice with money, a serious thirst and nothing to do - can cause some trouble needless to say. It is just a rough spot. Now, the upside, there are a lot of reds there, no doubt about it! I would not take teens, women or kids.
^^^^That is a pretty accurate description of most of the delta in LA. I spent some time there, mostly oil related, in Fourchon and would not care if I never went back. However, some of the lodges that cater to this look good, just don’t plan on doing much outside the lodge as said above. I would not even think about walking around at night unless it is from A to B and you know exactly what is inbetween.

Can’t really speak to Venice, but just got back from a 3 day Blast/Cast at Bay Flats Lodge in Seadrift,Texas…Limits of Pintails and Redheads within the first 30 minutes each morning. Plenty of Gadwall and Widgeon to round out a limit. Cold fronts had pretty much shut the trout bite down, but in two afternoons three of us caught 52 Redfish on various topwater and soft baits… Beautiful lodge within comfortable rooms and outstanding meals… We will be going back!
