Rebuilding Trim & Tilt Assembly

Hi, my trim and tilt assembly has a leak in the union of the trim cylinder and the manifold (the point where the two units meet). I have a 125 Mercury, single ram unit and have looked into purchasing a replacement o ring/valve kit but don’t even know if it’s worth my time. A replacement (new unit) costs over $700, while the replacement kit is under $85.

Does anyone have good experiences resolving issues such as this?

My thoughts are since you are fairly certain of where it is leaking you could remove the unit from the engine (have to do that anyway) and try to take the problem area apart. If you can get it apart without bolts wringing off then the rest should be fairly simple. I’d get it apart 1st, then buy the kit… I personally could work several hours to save nearly $700.

It ain’t no mystery…this beer’s history!

Certainly worth a try. The hardest part is taking them apart. If you can get the end cap off, you can probably fix it yourself. You need a spanner wrench for that. Like Blue Runner said, make sure you can get it apart before ordering the rebuild kit.

Thanks guys! Wasn’t sure if there is anything super technical about this part of the unit. Looks to be only held by two long 3/16" Allen head screws (valves, springs & o-rings) between the two units.

I’ve taken the trim & tilt assembly out probably 6+ time trying to narrow down where my issue originated from. I’ve replaced the cylinder O-Rings & Motor gasket attempting to narrow it down. Finally saw where the fluid was leaking from yesterday.

Larry, below is where I’m actually talking about the leak coming from…(where two units meet)

I had the same exact trim pump assembly on my Key West, but I had the black fill plug as opposed to the yellow fill plug, meaning a lot of replacement parts were no longer available. I took it to Chris V and his guys and they had it up and running in no time and the repair bill was a lot lower than I expected!! That was several years ago and it was still working as of earlier this year when I sold the boat.
