I’m spending time in lots of new areas but not finding many fish. I want to get a good fish finder to help me in my search. What do you guys use and how hard are they to rig? My kayak is a sit-in model listed in my sig.
Price should be $150 or less ideally, but price isn’t an option if more is required to get something that can tell the difference between a fish and a turd.
I have never used sonar before but I am very technical so I don’t need a dumbed down one. The more data the better.
Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a piranhaMax 220 that I use. It’s simple and easy to read. It’s also small and IMO perfect for the yak. Rigging was simple. Cabelas has a nice 12 volt battery that is light weight and last a long time between charges. I have my transducer mounted under my seat with vaseline and duct tape. I have not had any problems with it. Check out KFS, they have plenty to read on or let me know if you need additional help.
Same as stillfisn. Eagle Cuda with 8AA’s. I have GPS combo, good for marking spots and holes once found. My only problem has been keeping connections corrosion free.
Go buy you a good map, pair of sun glasses and some binos then go find you some productive water to fish. As shallow as you guys fish you don’t need a DF just slow down and read the water and wild life that’s around you. If you’ll find the bait, then look for some current breaks with a little structure and deeper water near by you should be good to go. If you do nothing more than paddle along untile you find some nervious water with a few birds your catch rate will increase, find the bait and those big ole schools of RF shouldn’t be too hard to find. Besides, if you are not seeing them with your eyes, than you probebly shouldn’t be fishing them this time of year. You could make the same argument when thy are tailing in the grass!
