Getting tired of having to constantly fight off the corrosion on my old baitcaster. Anybody have a recommendation for a low-profile reel that will hold up to saltwater? Looking for something that:
has a levelwind
has mag and centrifugal cast control
comes in left-handed model
doesn’t cost a fortune
Will be used for inshore stuff, reds, trout, etc. Don’t expect drag or line capacity is likely to be an issue. Thanks for any ideas!
Shimano Curado Been using the same ones in saltwater for 12 years. Take 'em to Haddrell’s every early spring and get them cleaned and any worn parts replaced. They are sewing machines.
turning out to be harder than I thought to find a left hand model. Looks like the Curado may be the way to go, seems to fit the bill and definitely available LH (hard to argue w/ Capt. Bob’s evidence!)
but, looks like there are two “Curados” - the E series and G series. Looks like the 300EJ (only member of the “E” series I can find) is a little beefier, with higher drag rating and line capacity but also seems to be about $100 more than the “G” series. The 300EJ seems to be the one that is listed under “Saltwater Reels” on most sites.
The 300EJ seems ideal other than the price ($260) - I was hoping to stay around $150 or less. Would one of the “G” series work, say the CU201G6?
Ambassador 5500’s aren’t low profile, and I only suspect they come in left hand models, but I have a 5500C3 that is around 13 years old and still works like a champ.

yeah, I’ve considered it. got a 6500C3 that is about the same age and runs great, but I’ve really gotten used to the low-profile on my go-to baitcaster setup.
Still looking around, harder than I thought it would be!
