Recommendations for offshore out of Oahu

Who’s fished off of Oahu,
who’d you use,
would you recommend them,
and how did the handle the fish ( I see some boats keep some of the catch to sell, some of them keep certain things, and others give you all the meat) I’ll be there for a decent time (4/12-4/20)and will be able to store and cook fresh fish so we’d like at least part of what we might catch. Are the laws different there on selling fish caught on a charter? I thought that was illegal even with a commercial license. Thanks in advance.

My wife fished with Chupu Charters on a boat called Foxy Lady out of Haliewa in 2011. She released a 250 lb blue. They keep the meat(they say they will give to a filet or two, but she did not catch any meat fish so I don’t know for sure) and the captain tried to pressure her into keeping the marlin too.

If you want to keep the meat in Hawaii you are going to have a difficult time finding boats that will let you and they will charge you more money. You need to make sure you have the agreement up front. Also, if you want to release Marlin you better let them know at booking because they will take it to market. I didn’t have any problem getting them to give us fish to take back for Sashimi and sushi platters but we also caught quite a few. I can’t recommend anyone on that island. Good luck.
