Recommendations on a .22 LR?

Have a family member that is interested in getting a .22 rifle for their birthday and am looking for opinions on certain brands. Pros/Cons on what is the best for the money. Thank you

You cannot beat a Ruger 10/22. There are so many aftermarket parts and upgrades you can add and do the possibilities are endless. I use to shoot at a range where these old men would meet to have their little private matches. They’d put up match sticks and other small objects and shoot them off the target carriers at 100yds. Every one of them shot a tricked out 10/22 that started out as a basic gun.

Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal? I wouldn’t go so far as to call a dog filthy but they’re definitely dirty. But, a dog’s got personality. Personality goes a long way.

Ruger 10/22 is the “classic” 22LR. Check out the “takedown” version. They are pretty dang cool. It basically twists apart into 2 pieces and fits in the nice little ruger backpack that they give you…

That being said, the problem with the 22LR is not the rifle, but finding ammo at reasonable prices. You can find plenty of it for 10 cents a round, but that is still a bit high historically.

I love my marlin. I’ve had it for almost 20 years and its still deadly accurate.

X3 on the Ruger 10/22. Best .22 ever made.

Ruger 10/22, best 22 rifle on the market.

my ruger 10/22 is a sweet shooting weapon. I love it.

One more vote for a 10/22. I prefer the older model that still had the metal trigger guard.

Mine’s had a break over the past three years, but before that I’d hate to say how many rounds have been through it.

With much abuse and little cleaning a hang up is rare.

everyone should own a 10/22.

My thoughts exactly. If I could only own 3 long guns they would be a Ruger 10/22, a Remington 870 and a Winchester 30/30.

Thank you all for the advice. I have been looking at that specific gun in the past so y’all have really helped out a lot. Thank you!

Look no more:smiley:.Before the 10/22 the tube style mag like marlin or Winchester (i believe) was the standard 22 you would find in almost every house. Now its the 10/22. Not that you care, but they even make a pink ruger 10/22’s. I call the pink model the “Good by kitty”

Any thoughts on the Henry Lever Action .22LR? Have someone that is selling theirs for a good price and just want some input on them.

Henry rifles are good solid little guns that shoot well. If it is a good deal you can’t go wrong with it.

They aren’t a 10/22 though. The fellow in the office beside me just picked up a 10/22 at Dicks on sale for $199.00. It’s a basic gun but for $199.00 it’d be hard to beat considering all the things you can add over the years.

Ruger 10/22

Marlin model 60 is a great 22 and has a cheaper price tag than the ruger 10/22 but either one would be a solid choice
