Is there anyone around here that sells reconditioned minn kota trolling motors?I am thinking of getting a new one. I know there is a guy in Atl that does. Comes w a one year warranty instead of two but about 1/3 less in price is what i have heard.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
Bought a reconditioned one thru Cabellas 8 years ago, freshwater model, using it exclusively in the salt pretty much and it’s still going, well, reverse went out last year. Definitly a good buy going with the reman ones vs new.

Don’t want to take over the thread, but I too am looking into buying another trolling motor. I have a RipTide that is about 4-5 years old. It might could be serviced/repaired; is there anyone in the Beaufort or Charleston area that works on trolling motors? Trying to figure out if I would be better off to repair what I have or purchase a new (or refurbished) unit.
Jimmy- Did you ever find out where to purchase refurbs online? Do you have any information on the guy out of Atlanta that you mentioned?

Is your trolling motor acting up or doing anything funny? I have pulled the motors apart on some and replaced seals, bushings/bearings and brushes. Its pretty strait forward besides knowing how to keep the brush springs compressed while reassembling.
The control panels tend to either work or not. Some of the older Motorguides with the foot pedal speed selector had issues but it was a cheap fix.
Glenn- I called Jim and he said that my problems seemed to be beyond his scope of work.
MattR-
I have pulled my unit apart completely. I know I have one issue that is either with the control board or the “actuator cam”. Basically, motor cuts out at certain speeds, but picks back up if you just twist past that speed.
Unfortunately, the last time I went to pull the trolling motor off the boat, the whole trolling motor took about a 6 hour saltwater bath. So now a bunch of the parts in the foot of the motor look pretty corroded. I was all set to replace the control board parts on my own, but now I am feeling a little in over my head. I can’t tell which parts are okay and which need replacing. I figured it might be worth paying a couple extra dollars with a pro so that I don’t end up chasing problem after problem.
