My smallest on a hard bait, possibly smallest ever. Its eyes havent even moved to the side yet. It hit super hard and then fought like pinestraw. Some how it got both sets of trebs in its tiny mouth.
I was throwing the mirrorodine xl in search of big trout and could see these little goofy eyed small fish come peck the body but dodge the hooks, or dart by my lure. Theyed come from under and behind and hit the belly, i could see them do it and not feel a thing on the rod. I switched to the 27m series and the better fish started biting. The trout really slam a mirror lure. Longer cast and faster fishing make it a good bait to search for trout. Twitch twitch pause. Most fish hit when it landed but 1 followed it in close and i watched him chase it down and slam it as the lure came to the surface at the end of my cast.
The goofy eyed fish were baby trout. I had 5 inch trout hitting a 4 inch bait.
They know winter is coming and will eat just about anything. I fish a Mirro-lure TT series a lot this time of year and you are right the initial strike is pretty awesome. I’ve caught many trout not much bigger than the lure itself. Nice pic and good to see some little guys running around. I’ve heard a lot of reports of some smaller fish over the last couple of weeks.
I think they’re just over the limit. I would rather keep a few small ones and let the big breeders go. I usually just keep the ones that get hooked deep in the gut.
OK I just moved to the area was curious is there anymore you can fish from the bank rather than a boat and still on the reds and specs like jetties ?
You can catch tons of fish from the beach and piers in the area. It gets expensive with fees and bait but not as expensive as having a boat lol! I only started fishing consistently over the past few months and have done better than I expected especially toting around my extremely “active” 7 year old son.
