I take crab pots with me when I go shrimping; I place them close to my shrimp poles. They draw off some of the crabs that will sit on my bait. When I plan on shrimping two nights in a row, I will leave my pots out overnight. I HAVE SEEN THE COMMERCIAL CRAB MAN EMPTY MY TRAPS AND CUT THE FLOATS, BASTARDS!! There are plenty of crabs for everyone! Do I carry a shotgun, a camera? How about the homeowner that does not believe that I have the right to place my pots in front of his property? He keeps moving my pots? I took a laser range finder to make sure I complied with the law. Doesn?t matter, this prick moves my pots every time! HE IS GUILTY UNDER THE LAW! I GET FINED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW WHEN I INCURE AN INFRACTION! I HAVE REPORTED THESE pricks TIME AND TIME AGAIN! LAW ENFORCEMENT IS BIAS TOWARDS THE INDIGINOUS POPULATION! I PAY TAXES TO MAINTAIN THESE NATURAL RESOURCES! WHY DOESN?T THE LAW APPLY TO THEM? I GET A VISIT FROM DNR EVERYTIME I GO IN THE WATER! I CANNOT BELIVE THET THEY NEVER NOTICE THESE INFRACTIONS!

I?ve read the whole thread now, a lot of ego crap, some good points. I remember when you could not run a boat without hitting an out of state crab pot. The navigable waterways cannot be obstructed by law. Where is DNR? The laws were changed and the out-of-staters were priced out of the market. This needs to be reformed again. I have paid $1.75 per crab, just one hundred miles from the coast, minimum sized crabs, and I?m sure undersize crabs are being kept by the commercial guys! Once again, where are the DNR guys?
As for good or bad crab catches, salinity drives the crab populations, they move with the influx of fresh water. Some years are better than others, we are now in a moderate drought. The crabs are moving! I completely agree that only larger males should be kept!
THE LAWS NEED TO BE APPLIED EQUALLY! WHERE IS DNR ON THIS!!!
PS: And SELLSFISH, I RECOGNIZE THAT MARSH! LEAVE MY CRABS ALONE!!!
Uh Oh…
Not a good way to start the day.

Why are you sure of that? They can’t sell them.

Apparently you haven?t seen some of the small crabs I?ve seen for sell in the Latino shops! Where do they get those small crabs? Who?s monitoring them? DNR? Apparently not!

Call DNR and report it if you see something that’s not right instead of *****ing about it on here.

Yea, I knew that was coming. Looking for answers, that is one I agree with. I have reported some, some I have not. My next door neighbor once, while i was on his boat. I had no idea what was going on, he filled two 250 qt coolers with every Blacky that came up. Never stopped at the landing, we rode in the boat all the way to the motel. That bastard sold every one of those Blackies to a Korean retail store. I have reported him since, NO RESULTS. Now I just would like to put my gear out without the pirates destroying it!!!

Excellent! Wheres the shop? Peapod could use some small crabs. Wait, not like that
“I am not involved in this thread, only helping Fred understand who he is dealing with.”
From April until about mid July prolly half of the crabs sold in our state were shipped down from pamlico sound and virginia since they are having banner years. They have no size limit on females and the small males they send down come from way up in the fresh water and tend to have really long points making them just barely legal. Our crabs here are always nicer.
