Here is the info from last years catches.Seems if they doubled the quota to 1300 fish, it would be a 12 month fishery. Also, the recreational sector left 56% of the gag grouper quota in the ocean last year. What’s up with that?

I see we don’t even come close to meeting the ACL on Vermellion Snapper,(18%) yet they close the season from November to March?
Where is the logic in that?

So, I cant catch a snowy grouper, but a commercial boat with a bandit reel can sit there and hammer them?

Here’s one that will piss you off… Had a conversation with my cousin yesterday that is in the longline business… He was telling me that the US gives China and other countries the “leftovers” from our YFT quota since most of the time we dont meet it. I am sure I am not explaining this exactly right, but this is how I understood it.

There is no way that the SAFMC can manage snowy grouper or any other deepwater fish. There is no way that the SAFMC can obtain relieable data on deepwater fishes.

Rather bold statments : but the fact is that there is A LOT of deep water in the ocean! Millions & millions of square miles of deep water that hold deepwater fishes. We only fish a small fringe of this area.

This closure is just another SAFMC “guess”
