was told of a red buoy about 1 mile off folly. supposed to be good fishing for large sharks. anyone fished there lately? is it still there?
plan to go sun,
Not sure which bouy you are talking about, the red one marking the folly river from the stono river or the one farther out past the outer bar of the Stono river which is a Green gong bouy labeled “1S”, then there is the Low Country Anglers reef bouy a few more miles out
PLENTY of sharks all in the stono inlet there.

put in at folly landing; head to ocean. it’s supposed to be straight out approx 1 mile. i think i saw it a couple years ago.

put in at folly landing, head SW toward Stono river, (lots of new sandbars in river, follow markers carefully) turn SSE (left) towards ocean out Stono river at last red marker in folly river alongside bird key. You are now in the Stono river inlet, there are sandbars on either side that break, their used to be channel markers going out the stono inlet to the ocean but they were removed several years ago, all there is now is a “sea bouy” about 4 miles from where the folly and stono river converge.
Stono inlet can get real nasty at times, espicially on a outgoing tide.

also note that the Coast Guard has deemed the Stono inlet there “un-navigable”, meaning if you go out that inlet and require a tow the local tow companies will NOT bring you back through that inlet…that recently happened to a friend…
I guess the “un-navigable” label voids all insurance coverage should something happen…

Yeah, have talked to the tow companies about that, kind of sucks but can see thier reasoning for sure. Would make for a loooong tow back in thru jettys and all the way around back to folly river, unless they took ya thru governors cut! doubt that!
Rumblefish, one dosen’t need to go all the way out the inlet to find sharks, anywhere in the Stono inlet once you come out of folly river holds a lot of sharks, there are some deep holes in the middle of inlet across from the end of Kiawah, chum bags work great for bringing them in. There should be a LOT of folks hangin out on end of Kiawah in thier boats this weekend as well.

actually they did Russ! they put in at Folly, went through the Stono inlet and were about 10 miles off Kiawah when they had a problem…had to be towed through dynamite hole, up the Ashley, through Wappoo, down the Stono and into the Folly River back to the boat ramp…good thing they were covered!

looking for a whopper shark. a guy told me he has caught several 8 footers at that spot. wanted to try it, but now im nervous about the sand bars and getting stranded.
