Red Crabs

Have any of you all tried or heard of the Red Crab being harvested off the New England Coast and Virginia? I have done a little research ,and some say it is stringy others rate it with the Blue Crab. It comes from deep water and they resemble the Blue. Thanks

You may be talking about the “peaky toe” crab. They are lobster trap bycatch. Very nice flavor

heres a photo . The shell is quite thick

Natureboy, thanks for the response. The ones I am referring to com from about 1800-2000 ft of water and are larger and the legs are long. I am going to give a can a try. 9.95 for a pound of the Lump .

I have had something called BIG REDS out of Delaware supposable caught in very deep water dredging for scallops. very good fresh,
as I remember about the size of a dinner plate each.
Definitely give them a try .

Look up Golden Crab, same depth of water and delicious! They were harvested off of S.C. for a while but ended up being cost prohibitive.
