How do most local fisherman rig their rod and reel for reds and specs.
this would get more reponses in the discussion forum.
A small fish in hand is better than big fish in promise
Thats a question that can be answered in many different ways. I use two different rods because of the way I fish for reds. I use bait casters with braid to a heavy leader, only because when I target reds it is around a lot of structure. For trout it’s 10lb mono on open face reels. But if my rod selection was limited I would go to open face with a lighter braid with a mono leader tied in.

Go to TooBusy’s web page and search on his 3 rod prospecting technique. Good stuff there. Www.kayakfishsc.com

I carolina rig or tie a dropper rig w 1 to 1 1/2 oz egg weight w live/dead bait of choice on a bait caster like a 5500c3 or something and a 7ft med heavy rod. I use a 1/4 oz jig head w grub/mud minner on it on a med to med heavy spinning rod with 20 lb braid and mono leader tied w dbl uni knot. Zara spook/top water on a med finesse rod & low profile fast retrieve bait cast reel with braid. Flutter hook w jerk bait on a med action spinning rod w braid and leader. thats about all ya need.
