Hey TimBuck2
Just send 5 dollars and a self addresses envolpe to Redfish Slayer, PO Box…
No Problem, I save it from the last posting. I might be up your way next weekend. Call me if you need help with this rig. SF 991-1801
Promise not to tell anyone else about these directions.
I’ve been having most my luck this season on falling tides, last year I liked rising tides…go figure. Here’s what I do.
Step 1) Put the “Electric Chicken” in your tackle box.
Step 2) Put the “Space Guppy” in your tackle box.
Step 3) Make this rig for ALL your rods. Slide a Bobber-Stopper on to 10 pound Power Pro line which is on your reel, remove the Bobber-Stopper tube, slide a 8 mm plastic bead on to the Power Pro, slide one of the small Bobber-Stopper beads on to the Power Pro (the 8 mm bead prevents the smaller Bobber-Stopper bead from going through your rod tip which is a pain to deal with in a kayak), thread the Power-Pro through a weighted sliding bobber,(use the Bobber Stop to set teh depth of the baits, I want mine soaking on the bottom) tie 6 foot of 40 pound mono to the 10 pound Power-Pro using a Double Surgeon’s knot (http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php), 1/3 of the way down the leader material tie a Single Surgeon’s knot ( http://www.animatedknots.com/indexfishing.php),Pinch and push this loop though the eye of a 3/0 circle hook and then over the circle hook to secure it, 2/3’s of the way down the leader material tie another Single Surgeon’s knot for the second 3/0 circle hook and secure it and at the end of the leader material attach a small ¼ ot ½ ounce sinker (the small tear drop type with a brass swivel built into the sinker(the package doesn’t list he actual weight).
Step 4) put a live bait (shrimp or mudder) on the top hook and a half a frozen finger mullet (head or tail) on the bottom hook.
Step 5) the last and most important step - toss this double bait rig to where the redfish are.
Note: If you haven’t used them, circle hooks are mu
SF,
Went out to Redfishville with my son this afternoon. It was a little breezy out there, so we were thinking probably going to be another no-love kind of day. Lo and behold Red #1 tags the rig hanging off the left side of the yak. My son’s eyes lit up and he was smiling ear-to-ear when I got him in the boat. Hadn’t even gotten the hook out (fish was still in the net, practically on my lap) when Red #2 hits the rig floating over to the right of the boat. Landed #2 and my son was hooked for life on fishing in a yak. Mission success!
Thanks a bunch for all your help,
TimBuck2

Hey TB2
Good work on nailin’ some of those “Redfishville Reds” with your son on board. Has your son landed one yet?
You just might see me out there tomorrow, the tides are kinda crappy but I’d rather be there than at home.
Hey BGF
Couldn’t have said it better myself
Okay Rapchizzle and ShallowSkiff…we’re expecting some “Redfish Slayer” testimonials from you guys in the near future, so get out there and nail some Reds.

I got down to Beaufort at the first of August and the wind blew very hard. I plan to put the slayer to work in Oct. I will let you know how I do.

Being the New guy, Where is Redfishville???
you give them to me so i can catch trout with them…seriously, thats a nice rig.course the reds are tearin up the shrimp where im fishin,so i use a bottom rig for that(single hook)all tied with the same line as on the reel- using head on shrimp on a j-hook.use a j-hook to thread the shrimp on so it looks natural in the water.
there are so many shrimp in the water right now they cant help but eat shrimp.
i dont know about “redfishville” though because no-one has shown me the ropes out there yet-bob

Hey Willy
Maybe we can work out a “deal”???
A trip on the Stono for a trip to Redfishville???
Didn’t you say in another posting you were seeing Stono Reds that wouldn’t take artificials? I have launched from Sol Legare when I first moved to Charleston and fished the creeks towards the Kiawah River, have not been upstream of that landing. I did nail my first SC redfish there, a 32+" red on the creek just before the Kiawah River but not much else.
Here’s a photo of that Stono Red
And Yes!!! that red hit a “PRS”

truthfully.i havent had the greatest year on the spottails.a banner year for trout.i finally have started catchin some reds on the shrimp rig.i will try your rig…believe that.i forgot…i did catch a 27 incher on folly last week.but, that doesnt count cause i wasnt in the yak.caught numerous reds yesterday…from a dock.(bowens island)speaking of which looks very tempting in the yak.
heck yeah we can fish the stono.i gotta good spot you would probably tear em up in around high tide during the higher stage tides.ill let you know.i do want to get up with you one day and go to “redfishville”.

Update from Redfisville,
Took the boy out again this morning. About 5 minutes into our 2nd location of morn, rod #1 bends in half and before I can grab it out of the holder, snap, Redfish Slayer rig #1 gone. Not 45 seconds later rod #2 folds over, snap, Redfish Slayer rig #2 gone. No other business on the day. Batted 0 for 2 today, but .500 on the fishing and 5 good hours with my son for the weekend. I’ll take that anyday.

Jimmy Buffet can have Margaritaville, I’m going to Redfishville!
Hey TB2
Sorry to hear about the 2 lost fish…bummmer man. What broke, your line or leader? Are your drags working/set right? I’ve had very good luck with Power Pro 10 pound line in case you’re using mono. Power Pro is a very good line the only problem is if you get a tangle/bird’s nest going just cut the line and re-tie because those type of knots are almost impossible to straighten out.
Didn’t make it out there today:frowning_face:.

Hey Willy
Have you made it into those flats to the left as you drive to the Sol Legare landing? The ones between Sol Legare Island and Front Coles Island, they look very “fishy”. Might have to launch from Bowen’s and check’em out.
SF</font id=“Comic Sans MS”></font id=“blue”>
SF,
The line broke on both. One was Power Pro, the other was mono. Not sure what the problem was because it was very fast when it happened. I’m thinking (in hindsight) the drag was too tight. Win some, lose some, but you always learn from your mistakes.
See ya out there.

Hey TB2
You’re right about that, better to have lost 2 than have no hits at all. Remember to keep moving…if I don’t catch anything with 20 minutes or so I keep moving even if it’s 50 - 100 yards away, unless of course you see and/or hear fish crashing baits. A lot of my hits come when I’m setting up at a new spot, I’ve had Reds hit before I can get the 2nd or 3rd rod out.
Speaking of drags, another thing I do is to fully back off on the drags after washing the reels at the end of a trip and then reset the drags a the start of the next trip that way you don’t over compress the non-metal disks in the drag system.
I guess you’ve learned it’s easier to tighten down on the drag after a fish hits than it is to back off on the drag.

SF-
that’s Kings Flats- connects Folly Creek to Green Creek and Stono. Quite shoal, great for Yaks and Jon Boat. Can launch from Bowens for no-to-nominal fee. There’s a small ramp at mosquito beach (on left side of Sol Legare Rd.)- don’tknow about parking there.
Anyone know the deal on those advertised boat lifts between Bowen’s and King Flats?

i havent had the yak in there yet.but,im gonna try it.
