awesome! where at?
Also, what size leader do you guys suggest for reds? I will be using an 8wt rod with 6wt floating line.
its gonna be tricky casting the 8wt. with 6wt. line, particularly on shorter casts… 20lb. flouro tippet in grass, as light as 10lb. flouro in late winter…

I agree with the good captain. Flats, I would suggest investing in another spool for your reel loaded with 8wt line.
Instead of using tapered leaders and tippets here I just tie on a section of mono or flourocarbon and tie the fly to that… I haven’t landed anything yet but it is a lot easier and stronger than a tippet and leader, all one peice and won’t break as easy… I agree with the good Capt. If yer throwin an 8wt I’d use an 8wt line…

If you switch to a tapered leader, knotless or otherwise, you’ll be amazed at the improvement in your casting.
I haven’t seen a difference in them at all. I used tapered leaders for trout in CO and would use a smaller tippet as the leader got shorter but since I have been back here I have been using a straight 10 or 12lb strip of mono for a leader and it works really well for me. I have never been a “Drop-a-fly-in-a-thimble-at-70-yds” caster but I’m fair enough. Maybe I have too many bad habits to tell the difference
