can someone tell me when the redhorse suckers go in the creeks in large numbers to spawn?
Used to be a good sign that they were in the creeks when the dogwoods were blooming.
I wasn’t aware there were any sucker species around the lowcountry. Where are you getting them when you DO get them??
i live in lexington area i have never caught any my first time. spring time water temp. around 50 degree is what have learned.

Two week ago on the santee river, there were 5 that I could see that someone threw out at the boat landing. I fished for them when I was a teenager on the edisto. They would be on shallow rocky areas feeding on the algae growing, attached to the rocks. Used small pieces of red worms to catch them.
I believe the nets used to catch shad has had a big inpact on them, along with stripers. If they would outlaw nets, the edisto would be an awesome fishery for shad in the coming years.

Many years ago we used gigs at night near the train trestle at Peak. I don’t know the name of that creek but there used to be bunches of them there. We quit going there because of so many snakes.
We used to gig them off of a bridge down around Bamburg when I was a kid, haven’t seen one in over twenty years, but I still hear of people who still gig them at that same spot.
