I prefer a live cigar minnows to any other bait. You can catch them around artificial reef structure on Sabiki Riggs. B-liner is ok, but if You can catch a Bonita (little Tunny) it makes a much better cut bait.

Why not just load up on menhadden instead of spending time trying to catch pinfish or cigar minnows?

they are better baits and hardier.

Assuming you keep them alive during the run offshore, do you really think an ARS is going to hit a pinfish or cigar minnow any differently than if a live menhaden drops in front of it’s face? But then again, I know people that prefer cut bait to live bait for ARS?

Please post all the pictures of 25 pound plus red snapper you have caught over the years… I have caught too many to count, but what do I know. You may catch a few on menhaden , But I’ll take a large quality fish over a few small chickens any day.

You can leave me all the hard tails and cigars on the cans then. Appreciate it buddy

Menhaden Are nothing but a back up bait for me. Will take some cigars, then Hardtail’s, then pinfish. In that order

Are you making these up as knocker rigs, or carolina rigs?

Is it possible to catch smaller live bait / cigar minnows out at the reefs? We’re usually heading out past the cans in the dark, not sure how effective the sabiki is at that time. Tried using a sabiki rig off the bottom when we were out at Y-73 and Comanche this weekend. The only thing that put on the boat were some, believe it or not, beeliners in the fish box. Went back to small hooks and squid to catch tomtates.
