Paul, do you think grounds a little more to the “north” are better than those to the “south”? seems like when we’ve lucked into them it was more northerly…
EDIT: oh yea and I got some of Jerry’s hooks 9/0 hooks, they almost look like Owners…

I normally fish up north, but last week we made a trip down south to a piece of bottom I had never fished about 3 miles from the North Hole. Absolutely covered in red snappers. Could not catch anything else ended up moving out to the ledge to get away from the snappers. I think any piece of live bottom from 100 to 120 feet will produce very well. Seem to find smaller fish out around 140 feet

Y’all do realize that since I am coming down for the week And NOAA keeps track of my vacations . That a freak storm will poop up around Thursday and run up the east coast just offf shore Friday Saturday and Sunday. Just saying. No damage just far enough off the coast that it messes up the fishing.

Paul what kind of live bait are you using, and where are you getting it? I’m going to start learning how to get out there and fish these reefs next week, finally picking up a little bigger boat so I can… thanks for any help… and are you going to reopen your store anytime soon??

I’d like to see you on a 50 man party boat with a bunch from here and work the snappers over good. That would be a total of 50 fish…BFD.
The chances of fifty individual boats catching 50 fish are slim…the game is rigged and they will take it away from all of us.
My bait for snapper/grouper is a butterflyed bee liner…on your set up…or a pinfish with an attitude. I hope to pack as many fisherman on my boat as I can carry…with electric reels.
The Snappa( forDG34YF) are almost as thick as the dogfish off Savannah and they bite anything. I try to stay away from known snappa areas just to keep from having to mess with releasing them…time consuming and depressing.
The council needs to go.

I wonder if this is not part of their tactic. I know several friends that have basically given up offshore bottom fishing due to all the horse @#@# rules.
I got a couple ?s since you guys seem to want everyone to catch some:
1)best way to catch the Beeliner or pinfish?
should u zip tie quick release your anchor out at the deep live bottom?
so sounds like go find some good looking bottom 100’ to the ledge and give it a go?
Thanks guys
I prefer a live cigar minnows to any other bait. You can catch them around artificial reef structure on Sabiki Riggs. B-liner is ok, but if You can catch a Bonita (little Tunny) it makes a much better cut bait.

Why not just load up on menhadden instead of spending time trying to catch pinfish or cigar minnows?

Assuming you keep them alive during the run offshore, do you really think an ARS is going to hit a pinfish or cigar minnow any differently than if a live menhaden drops in front of it’s face? But then again, I know people that prefer cut bait to live bait for ARS?
