Red Snapper

My crew miscounted and culled our 8th snapper thinking we were over the limit. :frowning:

Nice looking fish, fishing in the Gulf can be a lot of fun.

The rigs get the job done Wilcox?

Hate not catching snappa here.

Nice Snapper
Loaded up on them while pre- fishing a king tournement out of la Forchoun last yr… lots o fun and great eats.
We could use a few oil rigs off our coast !

we could benefit same and better from wind turbines off our coast and no threat of environmental disaster

FishnBarrels, not sure I am with you on that one. The number 1 cause of lost nearshore natural bottom is dredging and beach restoration projects. I would think that a lot of sand get's moved around by creating a few hundred turbines. Also, they are pretty ugly and there is no guarantee that they will let us close enough to fish them with all of the new "marine spatial planning" crap going on right now. There is PLENTY to fish on out there right now...

Phin, yes, the rigs are the real deal. Had our limit in less than an hour.

road trip!!!

I hear ya Skinnee. Wind turbines or oil rigs is very far down the road either way. They are both unattractive but seeing wind turbines off the coast would be pretty cool ( from my perspective) b/c that would mean that the world is moving forward and thinking of the future and energy needs rather than going nowhere and having the whole search for new energy revolve political nonsense and lobbying

I say we just go nuclear and bury all the waste in Iran… 1 nuclear plant equals around 1500-2000 wind turbines assuming they have good wind 25% of the time.

By the way. Those are pretty snappers! We have them like that in SC too. The eco-Nazis just won’t let us catch them!!!

skinnee, I’m with you on the eco-Nazis. That’s why I go elsewhere. It is truly unbelievable how many fish are being caught around those oil rigs. It is common place for those guides to take out a party of three and be back before noon with a limit of 75 trout. They catch 'em near shore, also, but the bigger ones are around the shallow oil rigs in 15-20 feet of water.

To let you know what bs these regs are I was on a boat off of Destin on July, 3rd 2006 about the year they shut them down in the gulf and we got a similar limit, right off the beach in 3 hours. Throw a few
grouper in the mix.

nm

Go down there to get away from bs regs…??? LMFAO…the snapper season is 40 days long this year, and they have decided ovefishing is no loner occuring…At least we have a 4-5 month long bsb season…Face it…we are all taking it in the 2 hole from these baztards. Roger that on the fishing in La though. I fish the Biloxi marsh a bunch. One good thing the enviro Nazis do down there is require them to destroy that great habitat within one year after a rig stops producing. Nothing like a 2 hr boat ride only to find out your favorite rig is being dismantled.

VOTE out the people that load the council with idiots…Gov Haley = 3 more years of David Cupka

Strange how nobody from the SAFMC ever comes on here to challenge those of us that disagree with them…

.

NMFS = No More Fishing Season
