I went to Steinhatchee, Fl. last week and caught a pile of very large Red Snapper and a lessor number of Gag Grouper. We managed a five person limit of snapper(three per person)in less than thirty minutes the last day. I have pictures but for the life of me I can’t get them from my cell phone to this posting.

tanksgt,
I am heading to Mexico Beach on the 22nd. What worked best for the snapper? I have caught snapper over the last few years there but I am really going to focus on larger snapper this year.

I’m headed to Steinhatchee next week for a week of Scalloping with the grand kids. Double drop loop chicken rig with squid or Menhaden, live or dead. They not very picky. We fish Tuna Belly’s on oil rigs in the Gulf and slay them!Good luck.
If it got any better I couldn’t stand it.

We used live and dead Pinfish. We also had some dead cigar minnows. The snapper were not very picky. We did a lot of trolling with the large Manns stretch 30 lures. The art was in finding them. If you can locate the fish, they will bite just about any meat you throw at them. They ran between 15 and 20 pounds with a few “hogs” thrown in for good measure.

That’s kinda what I thought, tanksgt. We would just cut squid or some sort of bait fish. How deep were you? I thought about checking reefs and wrecks in about the 75’ to 100’ range.

Man, wish I was going scalloping. We have done that a number of times in the Weekie Wachee area. lots of fun.
