Reddish on flats

Lately all the reds up on the flats haven’t been tailing or taking my flies just pushing busting and swirling. Can’t figure out what there eating, and they won’t take my flies, not even turn a head. Any tips? Anybody having the same issue?

I wouldn’t overthink it. Sometimes you eat the bear, sometimes the bear eats you.

We have had a little over a month of flood tides, I personally think the fish have just had enough tailing. I bet the next set of tides will be on fire!

Are you sure you’re seeing reds? There’s a ton of monster sized mullet (2+lbs) on the flats that will make a sizeable swirl and push. Easy to think you’re seeing a red when it’s really just a horse mullet.
When I’m fishing the flats, unless I can confirm with a tail sighting, (or unless I see the fish itself), I’m assuming most of these are big mullet.

Could it be a case of too much water in the flats you are fishing. We’ve had flood tides and a northeast wind for over a week.

Yeah I’ve noticed lately the flood tides are no joke and I’d want it another foot or so lower. There’s a ton of horse mullet on the flats and they look just like reds pushing. But I’ve actually seen the reds and put great cast on them with no luck. I think there’s just so much water and bait, once it starts to cool off and some bait leaves I’m hoping it turns back on. I went out a couple days ago and could only catch one good red on fly, but suprisingly 10-15 little tarpon.

no lol, they are tarpon and there’s a lot of them here this year. You just have to know how to find them. And then get them to eat. Picky things sometimes. I will attach a couple photos. I’m trying to figure out how to attach a photo through phone. I may have to get onto desktop.

Thanks,I’ve never caught a tarpon. Can you give me a general area

All up and down the intracoastal in the most stagnant backwaters. (Safest for them) this one came from behind Kiawah Island.
