Redfish and speckled trout

Went out Sunday with no luck then went out Monday and slayed them! Several redfish were caught free lining menhaden, had several break offs as well. Caught one flounder and 38 trout. All in all it was a pretty good day other than getting poured on for a little while. All fish were released except a keeper trout and a red that swallowed a circle hook. I hopped in the water and got a few pics of the release on the biggest fish caught, I’ll post them later after I edit them. Here’s a little video with a few of the fish we got on video. https://youtu.be/Xy2va_vRYV4

Great fishing there! I find that not using a net adds another element of fighting/controlling the fish before pulling him out of the water.
Keep up the good work!

It definitely adds an additional element, but I still prefer to net the fish. That extra bit isn’t as exciting since the fish is already pretty worn out, so I’d rather land it quickly rather than fight the fish to absolute exhaustion. I can land them earlier with a net, and they seem to recover much more quickly. I also have a rubber mesh net, so I don’t worry as much about scraping the slime off. I don’t want to turn this into a redfish coddling thread, this is just what I do and what makes me feel good about any fish I choose to release.

Nice pictures, Keith! Especially love that second shot of the fish with the head down.

I use a net too. I’m able to keep the fish in the water while preparing for pictures.

God bless the “ignore” function.

I use a net…and then a filet knife.

Nice video. One thing I’d like to mention and I certainly mean this in the best helpful way possible. Never unhook your boat before going down the ramp. I makes for a quicker launch, but many bad things have happened to many people doing this.

It's actually funny you mention that because while we were fishing that day a guy did the same thing at the launch and his boat came off the trailer before he hit the water.

Yes, we used to have a very steep ramp where I live.
Several years ago, fellow unhooked and “launched” a brand new Grady right onto the concrete.
Did a lot of damage

My buddy is gonna see this so I can garantee he won’t be unhooking his boat anymore like that after reading these horror stories.

Yep… saw a brand new 18 ft Sea Hunt laying on the concrete at the Sullivan’s Island ramp one morning waiting
on the tide to come in to float it. Luckily it was at a dead low tide and the boat was at the edge of the water.
Concrete isn’t kind to gel coat.

I Phucked up a boat the very first time I launched one and have been Uber careful since then. Bout screwed up a few weeks ago launching a buddies boat in a 5 knot current at SIF in Georgetown.

Yea that would definitely be a nightmare to have a boat come off before touching water!
