The times they are a changin’, the reds are finally starting to school up. I went out last Sunday not expecting much due to the bad weather and floods. Loaded up on finger mullet and some shrimp around an hour before low tide. Got to my spot and waited for the tide to start coming in. All of a sudden I heard something that sounded like a depth charge going off. Looked over and saw about 15 slot reds terrorizing some bait in about a foot or less of water. Repositioned my boat and started tossing artificials. Nothing. Reds only wanted live bait, while the flounder took mainly artificials. In a little more than an hour, I managed 5 reds, 3 flounder (one being a personal best 26-27inches), and the usual stingray. Can see the school about 1:30. Best time of the year is finally upon us.
Cool video! Looks like a lot of fun!

cool video. if you werent so far from shem creek you would have 5 guides sitting there tomorrow!
Good work! Ahh…“the short cut”. Caught my first top water red in their, flat at the back at the fork. Ive had many great days in there, caught 70 one day in two hours. If you move away from deb creek and spend some time near Baruch you will find the above slot schools.

@on a fishin mission, thank you for your comment. I’ve never heard it called "the short cut."I know about the flat back there. You seriously caught 70 in one day? Must have been a few years ago. Have tried top water back there a few times, no success. Any tips? I’ve heard Baruch is good. Caught some big spawning Reds last week by the light house w/dock on North Island I think it was called. Im looking now on google maps. Is the water in front of Baruch called town creek, oyster bay, or town creek? Would appreciate any input.

Town creek runs from the inlet to the back and turns into no man’s friend. Lots of the smaller creeks hold good fish, clambank, 60 bass, oyster bay and Jones all hold good fish.
