Redfish/Drum Casting/Spinning Rod

I broke a St Croix Tidemaster bait casting rod and I am getting it replaced under warranty with a Tidemaster spinning rod. Or maybe an Avid if I get crazy…

Need Opinions on desired Spinning rod:
7’ or 7’-6"? Medium or Medium Heavy in Fast action? I will be pitching plastics for the most part for medium sized redfish etc. I have other lighter rods for trout.

I know you guys have opinions…

Thanks!!

34 reads and no reply yet?? Come on guys…

I will just have to figure it out…

Have patience Grasshopper, someone will respond. Your post is only a couple of hours old. I’ve had posts read by hundreds before a response.

Personally, I like the little longer rods because they can give you some extra leverage, and extra casting distance. If you’re going to be throwing plastics I would go with the medium, but fast action would be good as well

Anything that pulls drag, right?

Thanks Yak!

It is largely a matter of preference. I fish mostly 7’ have a few longer for targeting spooky reds in shallow water to give me the extra casting distance. Medium action seems to be about all I have ever needed and while you are using it for reds, many times you will catch trout in that process and in the winter I want the extra sensitivity in the rod. Just my thoughts.

7’6’ med fast

I use 7’ and 7’6" in both medium and medium-Heavy actions. It just depends on what lure presentation I’m using and where I’m using it.

This. Are you fishing docks, flats, the jetties, or what? The recommendation changes depending on your answer.

Flats, creeks and cuts, docks,etc…

The sweet spot seems to be: Medium power, Fast action in 7’ or 7’-6" length…

I have a brand new g loomis 7’1” gl3 that I could sell you

I love the baitcasters but the spinning rod seems more versatile for distance with light plastics and skipping under docks.

I have a couple of heavy casting reel/rods for surf/bait at OBX (Akios and Abu 6500).

The last three rods I have bought I have called Haddrell’s and told them where I was going to fish, what I use for lures, and what I fish for, and I gave them a liberal price range. They called me back with a couple of recommendations, and shipped the rod to me with the promise that if I didn’t like it, they would swap for another. They did not send the most expensive.
I have been very satisfied.
