I am going to be in the edisto area in 2 weeks for vacation. I am going to try my hand at catching a red OAF, and wanted to know if anyone could give me some suggestion on some flies? Also are there any good tackle shops that sell these flies around the area?
Charleston Angler is the place you want to be. The one in West Ashley in particular has a very good selection and knowledgeable staff. I believe most of those guys in there flyfish on a regular basis.
Or stop by the Charleston Angler in Summerville and see Stretch. He’ll put you on the right stuff too.

Field and Stream voted the Clouser minnow the best fly in the world. And that was against fresh and salt water flies. So, don’t leave home without one. They work great with our local reds.

Pillage and plunder with a 9wt and a fist full of clousers.
Amen Brother Jerms… Although I do like the crab patterns, nabbed my red OTF on them, but the M4 is a trout slayer…

spoons will catch fish, but I thought we were talking about flies:smiley:. OK OK, off my high horse spoon flies count, I still like a crab pattern with some flash and rabbit.

Edisto reds love copperheads, i fish them almost exclusively on the South ed but haven’t had luck with crab flies, Scotty tried to make me a believer out of them on the Wando but edisto water is dirty i feel like they would have a hard time locatin an inconspicuous crab fly. But honestly most of those fish down there have never seen a fly so they will grab about anything, but they love a copperhead
Colt, u gotta belive my brudda! exhale and see the cloud. i love dem lil crabs…and am a huge fan of rabbit, might need som beagles here soon…

Tied with two glass rattles. The down side is it does not move through grass well. So casting needs to be spot on,but I have had fish charge across a flat and nail it.
