Redfish Highway

Within one hour I had 4 dozen reds swim down the same 15 yard section of flat. The problem was… I was 2 yards inside that section. I had jambed the boat into some thick grass next to a fairly open section of flat and thought I was good; well out of the way. But they were ploughing right throw the thick stuff and I had (several times) a fish deeper in the grass than I was, a fish under the boat a two fish in front and two in the open water. I managed to pull three out. As great as it first seemed it quickly showed itself as a train wreck. As I would cast at a fish one would bang the boat and two would spook and I would see the next two coming on the right one ahead and there was probably another one getting under the boat and…

If there was any way to get the boat out of the way, I would have. But, with 5 inches of water and thick grass there was no place to go.

If you believe this story you are a fool but… it happened. I certainly wouldn’t believe it but, I was there. I’m stuck with it.

The first one had a tag (28" and I turned in the number) and the second one (26") is in the picture. The fish were deep copper color and most of them seemed 20 to 28 inches. Then the dam broke and the fish wouldn’t stop for photo opportunities. When I left, the fish were still coming and there was just NO water.

PS I almost turned the truck around this morning because, the wind was going to be out of the North and I was sitting bumper to bumper in traffic. Two bad omens. But, I’m not superstitious.

nice! “when you believe in things you dont understand…superstition aint the way” (s. wonder)

Awesome fish. I’m down in the keys. Went out to the bass pro on islamorada to exchange a broken rod and they had some monsters in there tank. Got there right at feeding time and they went crazy
