When and where do Redfish spawn? Spring? Is it more of an open water scenario or do they get back in shallow water creeks? Just curious more than anything.

I believe they spawn from mid August through the fall, in places like the grillage. And, in large schools offshore. I’m not a biologist but I think that is what my DNR friends have said.
you got the information you asked for, but i’ll add a bit.
red drum prefer deep, steep, high-current spots such as the grillage for large spawning aggregations, probably near the bottom. research on charleston fish shows spawning behavior begins when the water starts dropping in temp after summer peak, continuing until it gets to around 75 degrees on the drop, with a daily peak in male drumming activity from about 1-4pm. after that 75deg cutoff, they seem to quit and just hang around eating whole crabs on circle hooks for another month or two.
i’ve heard that if you play some Sinatra loudly from your boat speakers at the grillage, it really helps your hookup to landing ratio, but only in that 1-4 pm time frame, during spawning season.
