Caught this guy on the front end of outgoing tide as he left a large flat. When I cleaned him I noticed his large (and hard) stomach. Cut it open and discovered a new one for me: Mantis shrimp! A 6" one in a 16" redfish! Pretty cool. the mantis was in good enough shape I reckon the red had just gulped him down a couple hours earlier.

I love that the greedy spottail was trying to stuff a big ol fat mud minnow in there too.

Tell DNR that you caught a mantis shrimp. They are researching them bc they are invasive. Nice red though

Mantis shrimp are native (though not a true shrimp). Tiger shrimp are probably the invasive species you are thinking of.

I’ve caught one or two in cast nets, always kept away from the front end. I’ll have to look at them a little more closely the next time I catch one.
